the most common cause by far is the coil pack, its easy to change and a fairly cheap component - its certainly worth a try if the management light isn't on. if you want to be sure have the ecu fault code read as other possible causes are cam and crank shaft sensors. good luck.

It's considered a design flaw by ford and do not offer to fix it. As for the mechanics behind it, I'm still at a loss. Sorry I can't offer anymore information on this.
