They are different cartridges based on dimensions; however, the 38 and 357 can be used interchangeably in a 357 revolver. This is good because of the 38's lesser kick and greater affordability for practice.

IMPORTANT: You can use a 38 round in a 357 revolver because the frame's built to handle the 357's greater strength. Do NOT fire the stronger 357 round from a revolver built for the lesser 38.

Can 38 caliber bullets be used in a 357 magnum?

No. <><><> Above is correct- however, ,38 Special CARTRIDGES can be used in a .357 magnum revolver. The .38 Special is actually not .38 caliber, but .357 caliber. .38 caliber bullets, such as used in the .38 S&W catridge, cannot be used.

Can you use 38special bullets with a 357 revolver?

Yes, but please use the correct term- cartridges. Not bullets. A .38 Special is basically a .357 Short, and you can safely shoot .38 Special in a .357 magnum. The opposite is NOT true.

Can a 357 magnum shoot 38 long colt bullets?

No. A .357 Magnum revolver (not an automatic, lever action, or anything else with a headspaced chamber) can fire .38 S&W Special ammo, but not .38 Long Colt.

Can you fire 44 magnum bullets in revolvers and rifles?

There ARE rifles and revolvers chambered for the 44 magnum cartridge. If the weapon is marked ".44 Magnum" then it can be used in that weapon. You should know that there are other .44 caliber catridges, and THOSE weapons (44 Special, 44-40, etc) cannot use 44 magnum loads.

Can you shoot 44 long in a 44 magnum rifle or any 44 magnum bullets?

.44 Long? Check your cartridge again. As for your question, whatever you have, I'm almost 100% certain it won't be compatible with a .44 Magnum firearm. The only cartridge backwards compatible with the .44 Magnum is the .44 Special, and even that has limitations. .44 Special can be fired in a .44 Magnum revolver, but you need to check with the manufacturer before attempting this with a rifle, as the rifle will have a headspaced chamber.

Can you use 357 magnum bullets in a standard 357 hand gun?

If the weapon is chambered in 357 Magnum, you can fire the round in it.
