Was Louis Riel a father of Confederation?
Louis Riel's leadership in the Red River Rebellion of 1869 was directly responsible for the creation of the province of Manitoba in 1870. Almost all of the demands made by the Manitobans were agreed to by the Dominion government. Riel is often looked on as a Father of Confederation because of his leadership, but he was not involved in the actual negotiations which led to the passing of the Manitoba Act.
