Depending on the year and whether its an eddie bauer expedition or explorer, either on the passenger side just forward of the fuse box behind the kick panel or in the cargo area, drivers side in a small compartment about 3 inches above the floor of the cargo compartment six or so inches forward of the tailgate.

The egr valve on the 2002 explorer is on the right rear corner of the intake. The throttle body will need to be removed to access it.
If you have a 4.0 , you might not have one(some were not equipped), but if you do, it's on the driver's side of the engine, you cant miss it. If you have a 5.0, it's right behind the throttle body, at the rear of the engine, toward the passenger's side.
On a 1994 Ford Explorer : The modulator valve for the A4LD automatic transmission is on the passenger side of the transmission ( I believe it is behind a heat shield )
