Could a positive pregnancy test be wrong if bleeding occurs five days later?

There is always a chance a pregnancy test can be wrong, and there is also a chance you may have misread the results of the pregnancy test. But assuming the test results were accurate, you need to see your doctor ASAP.

Was the bleed like your normal period or was it more like spotting? What you could have experienced is what is called an implantation bleed, this could be the reason why the pregnancy test is positive. Implantation bleeding is a pink/brown vaginal discharge and it generally occurs around six to twelve days after ovulation and fertilization. The discharge will occur when the fertilized egg implants in the uterus. Usually if you test for pregnancy around the time that implantation bleeding occurs it will be a positive, however, if the bleeding is similar to that of your normal period it is unlikely to be implantation bleeding, it could be a sign that all is not well with the pregnancy as implantation bleeding is usually spotting, however, I am not saying that an implantation bleed cannot be like that of your normal period, so please do not worry. What I would suggest you should do is to see your family doctor as soon as possible as you will need a blood test to measure the actual amount of HCG....good luck.

It is rare that you will get a false positive. Make sure you are reading the directions correctly on the box for each pregnancy test you take. They need to be on a flat, dry surface and left alone until the time limit in the directions. If you had some bleeding/spotting this could be implantation bleeding which is common in your first symptoms of pregnancy. I only tested positive on a Clearblue pregnancy test. No other test would give me a positive. So it could also be the brand you are using. I wouldn't recommend dollar store pregnancy tests. Pregnancy tests aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Signs of pregnancy on the implant are lack of bleeding and positive pregnancy test. Irregular bleeding on the implant is a side effect, and not a sign of pregnancy.

It is possible, but the bleeding could also have been from implantation bleeding. A pregnancy test will show positive for a while after a miscarriage because your body has not rid itself of the HCG (pregnancy hormone) levels yet. The further along you were, the longer a pregnancy test will show positive. I would still be on the lookout for any symptoms of pregnancy, continue taking your prenatal vitamins (or at least folic acid), refrain from alcohol and tobacco and caffeine then in a couple weeks take another test and see. Or you can go to the doctor to either confirm pregnancy or miscarriage.
