Check the 240DL for fuel pressure and good ignition spark. The pressure could be low even though you hear the fuel pump. A problem with the ignition can cause this problem as well.

Q: 85 Volvo 240 DL starts for 2 seconds and then stops fuses are good and you can here the fuel pump when it is running. If you give it a lot of gas it will keep running rough let off and it stops.?
