What is the funchion of a spider gear pin in a differential?
It keeps the spider gears spread apart , to mesh to the Differential output shaft gears ( 2) , one on each side of of the spider gear set , inside the Differential Housing . What I was trying to find was a Modification to a Traxxas Rustler / Nitro Sport Diff , that you took a longer pin and cut it just a small bit longer , which in turn , is suppose to force the spider gear teeth ( further ) into the Diff output shaft , gear teeth , for better tooth contact area , hence .... less gear tooth breakage .....maybe last longer also.

How do you tell what size ring gear in 2000 sonoma?
Asked in Ford Explorer, Chevy Suburban, Ford F-250
What determines rear axle ratio?
The # of teeth on the ring gear and the pinion gear. There is always more teeth on the ring gear then the pinion gear. And the way you determine the gear ratio is devide the # of teeth that's on the pinion gear into the # of teeth that's on the ring gear and that will be the gear ratio. The 4 gears that are the same size and run together is called the spider gears. Do not count those gears they have nothing to do with the gear RATIO.

How can i find out the front gear ratio on a 1999 Chevy Tahoe four wheel drive?
It'll be the same as the rear. If you don't know what that is, you'll have a list of RPO codes in the glove compartment. Do a search for "GM RPO codes", and you'll have multiple sources that'll provide you lists to compare to what you see on that sticker. This is, of course, assuming that you still have the OEM gears in it.If the gears have been replaced, then you'd need to either take the diff cover off and count the number of teeth on the ring gear then count the number of teeth on the pinion gear, then divide the number you have on the ring gear by the number you have on the pinion gear.

How is spur gear different from helical gear?
spur gears have straight teeths. whereas helical gears have tooths crossed at an angle. spur gears are very noisy and helical gears have greater load capacity than the spur gear of same size. This is because in spur gears take the entire load in the tooth whereas the helical gears distributes the same load on to the shaft hence the gear tooth itself takes less load than a spur gear of same size
