My '90 Maxima did the same thing. I think it was something called a freeze plug.
The water pump on a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder is located in next to the engine. It is on the passenger side of the cylinder block.

Behind a panel next to the right of the glove box.
That is the water pump weep hole. Your water pump need replaced.
On right side of motor,under intake manifold, next to transmission.

It should be on your drivers side fender, right next to your coil.
In the power steering reservoir. Which is located on the passanger side next to the firewall right next to the hood hinge.
tighten hose clamp or replace gasket on thermostat housing The hole in the block next to the thermostat housing is the water pump weep hole. If coolant is coming out of that hole, the water pump has failed.
