black guerrilla family
The Black Guerrilla Family (BGF) is a black prison gang that was founded in 1966 in San Quentin State Prison in California. The gang was established by George Jackson and originally aimed to fight against racial oppression and promote unity among black inmates. Over the years, the BGF has expanded its influence and criminal activities both inside and outside of prison.

Jazz saxophonist Art Pepper, born Arthur Edward Pepper, Jr. (1925-1982), was an inmate at San Quentin from 1961-1964 and again in 1966. He released many record albums, both as a sideman and as frontman for his own ensemble, both before and after his imprisonment. Johnny Cash, contrary to popular belief, was never in prison, but he did perform at San Quentin.
