Many people are confused by what they see and hear on TV.
In Australia your constitutionally guaranteed rights are -
- Trial by jury
- To practice whatever religion you wish
- Political speech
This is why there are periodic calls for a "Bill of Rights".
Freedoms are a different matter. As long as you remain within the law (ie. thou shalt not steal, slander, misrepresent, rape, murder, pillage or hurt somebody's feelings) you can do and say almost anything you wish, unless it requires a licence or a permit and a large fee, especially driving, boating, fishing, shooting, 4 Wheel Driving, etc. in which case you have a number of straight jacket like legislation to contend with.

∙ 13y agoThe Australian legal has no one way or document that protects human rights. Unlike the United States and many other nations, Australia does not have a Bill of Rights.
SO, instead Australia's human rights are enshrined in the constitution, statutory law, and common laws (court law based on precident).
