According to the Centers for Disease Control, in 2005, the United States experienced an average of ten drowning deaths per day (3,582) with an additional 710 people dying from drowning and other causes in boating-related accidents. Furthermore, the CDC reports that more than one in four fatal drowning victims are children fourteen and younger. Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death in children.

The last published data on this is by the National Safety Council (USA) in 2005; in that year a total of 500 people were killed by accidental firearms usage in the USA (This included some suicides) - in perspective 16,200 from poison, 900 people died from drowning inside their home and the only lower number was 400 people by exposure (Heat or Cold).
