Advantages Of WAN
Disadvantages Of WAN
well an advantage is that occupants in two buildings can share a wireless connection to a network such as a large corporate network that demands connectivity. but a disadvantage is that signal is strong enough for anybody passing by to use for their own benefit without paying. you may have internet service flowing through your house on a wireless router and your neighbor may creep up close to your house and share your internet connection with you. so this technology is a blessing and a curse at the same time
Advantages Of WAN
-Messages can be sent very quickly to anyone else on the network. These messages can have pictures, sounds, or data included with them (called attachments).
-Expensive things (such as printers or phone lines to the internet) can be shared by all the computers on the network without having to buy a different peripheral for each computer.
-Everyone on the network can use the same data. This avoids problems where some users may have older information than others.
-Share information/files over a larger area
Disadvantages Of WAN
-Setting up a network can be an expensive and complicated experience. The bigger the network the more expensive it is.
-Security is a real issue when many different people have the ability to use information from other computers. Protection against hackers and viruses adds more complexity and expense.
-Once set up, maintaining a network is a full-time job which requires network supervisors and technicians to be employed.
-Information may not meet local needs or interests -Volunerable to hackers or other outside threats
There are many pros and cons when you look at both LAN (local area networks) and WAN (Wide area networks). The first and most glaring difference between WAN and LAN is the geographical area of coverage. WAN can cover almost the entire world while LAN is often restricted within smaller areas where the cabling is possible. On the other hand, local area networks tend to be more stable and fast. WAN can at times be unstable especially because they are affected by many forces including weather changes.
Big question. Let's see if I can kick this off by listing some...

i really don't know just want to say that all technologies or let us be in genral, that all things have it's own advantages an isadvantages.

Biggest disadvantage is security. Got to keep the bad guys out.
WAN. LAN is a short range connection, WAN is wide range.
The advantages of a WAN or wide area network connection are its ability to communicate with distant computers and the sheer size it supports. Unlike LAN's or local area networks, a WAN can connect to virtually any computer in the world.
absolutely wan. lan is used for a office or a building complex
An LAN card is a must if you wish to connect to a LAN but it is not required for WAN
LAN users get access to internet or can communicate with others LAN connected to WAN.
WAN requires the same technology as LAN.
Extranet is wan
WAN
Loosely-coupled operating system for heterogeneous multicomputers (LAN and WAN) Offer local services to remote clients too primitive (lowest common demoninator - too much diversity)
if the LAN is connected to another LAN over a wide distance using point to point links then it becomes part of the WAN (but it doesn't become a WAN by itself).
