Why can x-rays make images of bones and teeth?
Xrays are high energy waves that can penetrate soft tissue, like organs and skin, but not bones and teeth. Therefore, when you stand in the xray machine, the film is exposed to xrays only where they can pass through the body. Hence, you get pictures of bones and teeth but not organs and skin. ...

How long does it take to read an X Ray?
Depends on what the xray is showing or ruling out. Diagnosing cryptic injuries, especially when soft tissue is invovled (which xrays dont show in any great detail) can take hours. Most xrays, however, show what you need to know in an hour or even a few minutes. Depends entirely on what you're trying to find out. ...

What is the average yearly cost of cancer treatment?
No one but your doctor or insurance company can answer this precisely. It really depends on the type of Cancer and treatment that will be received. My personal experience included 3 surgeries, 10 months of Chemotherapy, 2 months of Radiation, 3 PET Scans, and more medications, CT Scans and Xrays than I care to count. I had good insurance so didn't pay alot out of pocket. If I had not had insurance, the cost would have been well over $300,000.00 for everything....

Why do images of bones appear in the X ray?
Images of bones appear in an xray because bone is denser than other living tissue, so less of the xrays can pass through it. Or, if you like, think of the bone as casting an xray shadow. Since xrays fog film, where more xrays get through the film is darker and where less get through (in the shadow) the film is lighter. The result is an xray film in which you can readily see an image of bone. If the technology...

Why is it that sometimes when bones are x-rayed they appear as white images?
Bones always appear as white images in regular xrays. However they arent really white because the film is clear, the plastic on the view box is white. But on xray film it is coated with a metalic layer. The xrays make the metalic layer stick to the film. So the black part of the film is where all the xrays reach the film. If the area on the xray is gray, then that means that some of the xrays are getting...
