In 1971, Davidson designed the "Swoosh" logo while still a graphics design student. She billed Blue Ribbon Sports, which later became Nike, $35 for her work. In 1983, Phil Knight, the founder of the company, presented her with a diamond ring engraved with the swoosh and an undisclosed amount of stock.

It all started in a classroom. A fifth grade teacher wanted to start a shoe company, and said it needed a symbol, so the class each came up with a symbol and she won. Sadly, though, the teacher only gave her $35. Hopefully, a pair of shoes to go with it!
