Mr birling sacked Eva Smith from his factory after she asked for more money and also organized a strike.
Sheila's responsibility was she got Eva sacked from Milwoods (shop) because Sheila was trying on clothes and a certain dress that she really wanted didn't suit her. She saw Eva smiling at another shop assistant and it got her angry. Sheila demanded that was fired. Eva then changed her name to Daisy Renton.
Gerald met Daisy and gave her somewhere to live, then after a while she became his mistress, however after the end of the summer, he made her leave, and therefore made her homeless again, however he did give her some money to sustain herself. Daisy went away for a while to reflect on her affair with Gerald.
Eric then met Daisy in a pub and he got her pregnant. Then he decided he couldn't stay with her because of different classes but he did steal money from the office for her. Eventually she realised it was stolen and refused to take any more from him.
Daisy went to a meeting seeking help from Mrs Birling, who was the chairlady. However Mrs Birling turned her down, therefore almost forcing her to take her life and killing her own grandchild unknowingly.
Sheila was the most guilty out of the family members when she heard about Eva/Daisy's death. It changed her character from a happy, self-centered, pretty girl to a remorseful woman who, in a way, became the inspector as time went on. She was the only one who truly understood what the inspector was trying to get into the families minds.
Gerald felt guilty also, leaving them so that he could go for a walk to clear his head. When he returned, however, with the news that the inspector didn't actually exist, his guilt was gone, unlike Sheila who still felt guilty.
Sheila's attitude changes by her getting serious after she finds out that her father Arthur Birling fired a girl from work, she gets a bit tense when she finds out that Gerald was with Daisy Renton all summer when he never came near her.
