No. The Gatling Gun was a startling innovation when it was introduced, but was notoriously unreliable and jam-prone. More experience with that type of design, modern cartridges, and the water-cooled jacket led to the later versions like the Browning and Vickers of WW I vintage, which were highly effective weapons.

The modern descendants of the Gatling Gun are miniguns or rotary cannons. They are extremely effective weapons in many cases, but have significant weaknesses, too, so it's hard to say they are "better" or "worse" than a machinegun.

For example:

Machine guns can be made very lightweight. A typical light machinegun (such as the FN Minimi) can weight as little as 20 lbs. with a reasonable amount of ammunition. This makes machine guns excellent man-portable fire support weapons for the infantry. Machine guns are also quite simple mechanically, and are thus highly reliable and cheap to make. However, they suffer from an inability to scale in size well (making a gas-recoil machine gun in over a 20mm caliber is not practical), and have rate-of-fire limitations far below that of other automatic weapons.

The modern minigun or rotary cannon's strengths are its enormous volume-of-fire capability (5-10x that of a machine gun), and that the design scales very well, from 5.56mm to over 75mm calibers. Disadvantages are considerably heavier weight (compared to a machine gun of the same caliber), massive ammunition consumption (and thus, requiring large ammunition storage), complexity, and cost.

In usage, machine guns are far superior for use by infantry and other man-portable situations, and work best against other infantry or unarmored vehicles. Rotary cannons are effectively vehicle/aircraft/ship mountable only, and are most effective against other vehicles, aircraft, ships, missiles, or armored/reinforced targets.

Are Gatling guns fully automatic rather than machine guns?

No. Machine guns are fully automatic. With Gatling guns, you have put in bullets and crank at the same time but with machine guns, you have to put in bullets, place them on the ground and let them activate and they will open fire. Gatling guns cannot fire automatically, you have carry them and hold them so they can fire. Machine guns are much better than Gatling guns because they can fire thousand of rounds per minute, faster, powerful and can automatically open fire.

Will machine guns be able to beat Gatling guns?

Yes because machine guns are much better than gatling guns. With Gatling guns, you have to crank and put bullets in at the same time so they can open fire but with machine guns, you don't have to crank them. Just put in bullets, place them on the ground and let them activate. If you have Gatling guns, you have to carry them and hold them but they are very heavy and also not fully automatic. With machine guns, you do not have to carry them and hold to let them open fire. Some machine guns are heavy and light but they open fire automatically without having someone to crank but even though, machine guns are faster and much stronger than Gatling guns. They can fire up to thousand to 1 million rounds per minute while Gatling guns can fire up to 60 rounds per minute. Winner: Machine guns have beaten Gatling guns.

Are Gatling guns heavy?

Yes. All Gatling guns are heavy but have to be hand cranked and fed bullets at the same time. Machine guns are also heavy too but not all of them. Machine guns have to fed bullets only but machine guns also spray more bullets much faster than Gatling guns.

General Custer turned down a weapon?

Yes. General Terry offered him a battery of six Gatling Guns. Custer refused them on the grounds that they would slow him, and they would have. They were heavy and mounted on an artillery carriage. Thirty years later, gas-operated machine guns were available which could be packed on the back of a cavalry horse, and these were used in the Russo-Japanese War. The Gatling Guns could have prevented Custer's Last Stand because the hostiles knew better than to attack them, but of course Custer did not foresee such an outcome when he turned down command of these weapons.
