Almost all the printer company's have jumped on the Mac platform so yes, Lexmark is compatible.
BUT....
As with any manufacturer not all models are Mac compatible so you should go to the printers web support site to see if they do have Mac drivers.
The Mac has basic printing features, called "Plug and Play", but you may have to go to the printers web support site to get the latest pinter drivers for your particular printer model to enable all the options.
It can take from weeks to months to get the new drivers for the next upgrade in Mac OSX. Windows has the same issues.
If you have an older printer the printer manufacturer may not keep making updated drivers for every OS upgrade so make sure they have the drivers for all your older devices before upgrading any OS, Mac or Windows.

Printers in the x5400 series are unsupported by any version of Linux, and will probably remain so, due to Lexmark's refusal to provide Linux drivers for their printers.

It all depends on what model HP printer one has. There is no way to suggest compatible toner cartridges without knowing the model in question. One should visit the HP website for more information.
The Best makers of all-in-one printers are HP, Lexmark, and Epson. Epson is the Cheapest selection, Lexmark is mostly for business purposes, and HP makes great all around Printers. An HP Officejet could serve any purpose and carry out any duty. Epson Workforce is a good series of printers with virtually every capability the HP Officejet has but for a lower price.
