Are airplanes eco-friendly?

Because airplanes use a lot of fuel, they are not really eco friendly, but some airlines are more eco friendly than other ones because they do things to help the environment. Virgin Blue for example, offers customers the chance to offset their emissions from their seat on the plane by paying a little extra. Other airlines, like Scandinavian Airlines are adapting new ways to be green such as a "green approach" that uses less fuel when the plane comes in to land.

Also to add, long-haul flight are a lot better (less co2 per mile) than short-haul flights
