Easy argument both ways. It all depends on the criteria you are using, and who the customer is.
Buses are certainly cheaper to use than driving a car for the individual, BUT:
- Not all locations are reachable by bus.
- They run according to a specific schedule, which means that you often waste time waiting for it.
- If you miss the bus you end up with lost time, expensive cabs, and general frustration.
- Buses (local, at least, and depending on the route) stop along the way fairly often and thus take much longer than a car.
Cars allow you to get to wherever you want and at whatever schedule, and they travel more quickly than buses. BUT:
- You have to pay for gas, insurance, parking.
- You have to handle periodic tune-ups and repairs
- You often may be driving a single person in a vehicle meant for 5, so it's extremely inefficient.
- They contribute to more pollution.
- You have to be paying attention when you drive and can't read, daydream or relax as you can on a bus.

∙ 12y agoA bus firstly has a larger engine capacity therefore producing more emissions pro-rata. Also buses are in the majority diesel which is harder to clean than petrol.
However, if there are thirty people taking the bus who might otherwise be traveling in private cars or taxis, then the bus is a much better choice.
