wanna see a comet? well

step 1: take a look at the forcast and make sure a night will be clear & no rain

step 2:get a tarp & sleeping bag and suppleis (NO TENT) and go to a place were you can see the sky really well.

step 3: put the tarp on the ground and wait till night to put the sleeping bag

step 4: chill at that place till night then drink a whole bunch of cofee (if your alowed)

step 5:now just get in your sleeping bag on the tarp and watever extra blakets you brought and wait

step 6:you''l see some stars but the sooner or later you'll see a comet (shooting star, make a wish!)

The above steps could be useful to you.. if you want to see a meteor.

Which is way more likely to happen than the sighting of a comet. All you really need to see a meteor is to be in a considerably dark area.. next to the ocean of a big lake works pretty well. The idea is to get away from as much light as possible.

In order to see a comet you generally would need to do some research to try to predict the passing of one (they orbit the sun) and a high quality telescope. Even if you can manage to do these things, comets are very unpredictable they can brighten or fade, lose its tail.. or even gain another, and it can ever break apart all together. Unless you have a connection to NASA it will be very difficult to know which comets are still kicking. If it is something you are really interested in.. try getting in contact with some one from the head of a university with a decent astronomy program.

It depends on the comet. You can see comets when they are making their swing around the sun, if they are large enough and if their orbital path brings them close enough to earth. Many small comets are not visible, and we cannot see any of them when they are far enough from the sun. Halley's is probably the best known comet, and it was visible at its last approach to the sun in 1986. I had the good fortune to see it and it was beautiful, but by all indications this was not as spectacular as its previous appearance 75 or 76 years earlier. It will appear again in 2061 because it is a short-period comet. Other comets can take thousands of years to return to our vacinity.

some comets can be seen with a naked-eye meaning you can see it with your own eye without any telescope.. but some you may need those big telescopes because they arent very bright.
