Yes. A dermatome is a segment, or area, of the skin that has on innervation into a spinal nerve root. What is fascinating about this is that the nerve root does not only serve the skin in that area, but also the muscle, bone, and organs associated with that specific dermatome nerve root.

Which cranial nerve has 3 branches?

The twelve cranial nerves can be can one of the following types:* Sensory = carry sensory innervation/information to and from certain organs * Motor = carry motor (movement) innervation to certain organs * Mixed/Both = carries both sensory and motor innervation

A combination of motor and sensory are called what?

motor and sensory innervation pertains to the peripheral nervous system PNS, where you find both efferent and afferent impulses. CNS pertains to sensory only, afferent.

Which nerve and branch provides sensory innervation of the lower gums teeth lips and palate?

mandibular branch of the trigeminal nerve

Does your sense of touch differ from different parts of body?

Indeed it does. The body has a great number of different "sense of touch" cells. Some sense pressure, some sense texture, pain, heat etc.The skin where the sensory nerveendings are situated is divided into regions (called dermatomes) depending on what spinal nerve it is connected to. The amount and type of sensory nerveendings in any given area determines roughly how sensitive it is.The lips, eyelids, fingers and feet are examples of areas that are rich with sensory nerveendings, whereas the back, the front of the thighs and outside of the upper arms are much less so.

How long is the brainstem?

The brain stem is relatively short, around 7-centimeters long. The brainstem provides the main motor and sensory innervation to the face and neck via the cranial nerves.

What is the function of a Tibial Nerve?

The Tibial nerve provides motor and sensory innervation to the posterior compartment of the leg and sole of the feet. Injury to the nerve could produce loss in flexion of the toes and feet.

What is the structural and functional relationship between spinal nerves skeletal muscles and dermatomes?

Each spinal nerve provides the sensory and motor supply of an adjacent muscle mass (destined to become skeletal muscles) and the cutaneous supply of a dermatome (skin segment).

What is sensory cutaneous innervation?

Sensory cutaneous innervation refers to the nerve receptors in the skin. There are many nerve receptors that measure things like touch, pressure, vibration, and temperature in the skin. The most notable of these are the Merkle disks, Meissner corpusles, Pacianian corpusles, and the Ruffi end organs. Then there are also hair follicle receptors and Krause end bulbs. They all form a network that is sometimes referred to as a dermatome, which is an area of the skin that is innervated by a single nerve root on the spinal cord.
