Emo is a stereotype given to self- mutilators. Some people may get offended if called emo. Most of the time people who cut themselves do so to stay alive. Most people who dress in the "emo" style are doing so for attention or in some cases a cry for help. Some people do cut themselves and are trying to kill themselves. but if a person really wants to kill them self, they will probably find a better way to do so. If you are suicidal than call the suicide hotline immediately. They are very nice.

Emo is a sub-genre of music that has long died out and has been bastardized by the mainstream media to anything that is a man who is feminine by wearing tight pants, eye liner, and sings about his girlfriend (or boyfriend) breaking up with him.

No. Emos are a youth subculture with a specific style of dress and music. They are not all suicidal or depressed, nor is everyone who is suicidal or depressed an emo. The two things getting muddled are causing a significant problem because people who are genuinely depressed may not confess because they do not want to get labelled emo.
