Are lawyers interns first before they practice law?

No, when a student of law graduates and passes the State Board testing, they are deemed a fully functioning Attorney of Law. They may often start out, though, as a Junior partner of a law firm to allow the person to gain more experience working a wide variety of cases, but they are indeed fully qualified as a lawyer.
