Yes, most gecko species make great life time pets for all ages. The initial startup cost is pricey and must be done in order to ensure the animal's health is well. Cleaning after geckos as well as maintaining them is affordable and quick. They require only an hours' worth of work a week and are able to be unattended for extended periods of time.

They are the best pets ever! BUT some of them bite the best kind I'd say is a leopard gecko and they are so awesome! after they get use to you they get really nice! Then they would start to crawl on you and more! They are also very simple pets to take care of and eat crickets and don't need much supplies. Also they are very adorable!

Edit: Geckos make good 'first-reptile pets' PROVIDED you do the necessary research into their living conditions and dietary needs before you get one ! It's no good getting a lizard then suddenly realising you have no idea what to feed it, what substatre to use, what lighting it needs or what temperature/humidity it requires etc ! In short - do your research into the species before you spend the money (Snakester1962)

Yes. they are great for first time reptile owners! They are not good for children as are fragile and shouldn't be held lots. They aslo are nocturnal so you will only see them just before you go to bed. But most of them are lovely natured and make adorable lovley little pets.

I have 2 house geckos & they are cute & have a lot of personality. They are very fast, smart & tricky when you go to feed them though. They both got out one evening when I was feeding them. It seemed like they both flew out at the very moment I lifted the lid to feed them. I was watching for that & they still got out. I was looking for them for two days! But other than that, they're great.

As for someone like me who loves reptiles, I would say yes! They are probably the most easy ( and coolest) gecko to have. Leopard geckos don't need lots of care, but you can still hold and play with them. Temp should be about 78-88, they don't need UBV lighting so just use a normal heat lamp or heat mat. I feed my baby about 2-3 small cricketswith a few mealworms (optional). adults eat every other day. They need a 10 gal tank, 20 gal if you have two. I got my baby gecko for $25 but adults are normally much more.

I would say so, as long as you enjoy animals that are very small and can crawl through anything. just get a secure tank if you are planning to get one.

Leopard geckos are the best lizard to start out with. Do all the research you can and make sure by the time you buy it, you know exactly what you are doing. In my opinion, a lack of proper research is the worst thing you can have when owning a reptile.
