I have very sick..poisoned dog. 4y old girl Rottweiler. In my opinion it is happening from eating pods from mesquite tree.. internet is saying that the pods are Not poisonous. My dog is suffering the third time after eating them. This time she got extremely affected. Vomiting, ( she spit out many beans ), in her vomit was a blood and she passing blood from her nose. Her breathing is irregular and deep. She is drinking a lots of water, and vomit on and on after. Her urine is clean, she urinate a lot. I provided for her charcoal, vit E, magnesia milk, pediatric mix with Caro syrup...Tomorrow I will give her her vit K1. She is sick since last Friday. Her condition is much better now. She is very weak, lost a lots of her weight, she is exhausted, but alive and more active. Her apathy stage is over, I try keep her very calm. Saturday it was a critical day. I was not sure about her survival rate. Today she got very hungry, so I cooked for her chicken broth with chicken breasts, organic brown rice, made her meal in soup style. It has a lots of fluid, little rice and little chicken cut in tiny chunks. I fed her today 3 times in small portions at each time. She never throw up. She kept the food. Her stool Saturday morning was darker. She was nose bleeding two time today. Chunks of mucus with blood came out. I hope that the vitamin K1 would help her to stop the bleeding. Is there something else more I can do for my baby? I love her sooo much, don't wanna lose her, feel her pain. It is close to 2am..I'm with her, listen to her breathing. She is sleeping now. Thank you in advance for your respond. Sincerely Gabriele..P.S. Should I put ice pack on her nose??
Partial answer...I've researched pretty hard regarding Mesquite trees and pods, and their toxicity with canines. I find they're not toxic in anything like a normal dose. However, I get the feeling your dog is something of a forager. So I wonder if she's run into some rat bait. Rat toxins nowadays are anticoagulants mostly. And the overall bleeding picture seems to fit. The bad news is there's no antidote at this time. I think Vit K is a good choice, as I see you've done yourself. The good news is that, if this passes well, there are usually few if any after effects.
I think there's no need to icepack her nose, as the bleeding is probably not local.
I wish you very good luck.
The beans in the pod of Prosopis Mesquite is a legume and consumed by humans and therefore does not appear to have toxic chemicals .It is also eaten by wild animals like coyote in Mexican deserts and therefore may be safe for dogs however there is no evidence of its long term use and harmful effects. A careb tree with pods is safe for dogs.
There are three different kinds of Mesquite trees, the Honey Mesquite (Prosopis glandulosa), Screwbean Mesquite (Prosopis pubescens ), and Velvet Mesquite (Prosopis velutina).

mesquite is way harder than oak
I'm using mesquite charcoal in the grill. Let's look a little more closely at this mesquite tree.

Mesquite.
Mesquite isn't a type of grass. It's a type of tree. Mesquite makes good BBQ wood. Other than that, the actual tree itself has thorns and a bluish gray moss like fungus growing on it.
