∙ 9y agoIt depends on the snake. If the "stripes" are bands around the snake and you live in India, Bangledesh, or Southeast Asia, yes it is poisonous if it is the Banded Krait.
The Telescopus semiannulatus, also called Tiger snake of Africa has venom but is not dangerous to humans. It is also banded.
If the snake has stripes that go head to tail, it may be the garter or ribbon snake. They are found in North America. They are harmless and are frequently kept as pets.
It is best for you to go to do a search on the description of the snake.

The Red-belly snake (Storeria occipitomaculata) is a relatively small snake that rarely exceeds 12 inches in length. It is native to North America, Mexico and Central America, and it is NOT venomous.
The Red-bellied black snake (Pseudechis porphyriacus) is considerably larger, and can reach 1.5 to 2.5m in length. It is native to Eastern Australia and is venomous.
There is also a technical misunderstanding in using the term 'poisonous'. Poisons and venoms are both substances which can cause you harm, but poison is a substance which causes its effect through being ingested or absorbed (eating or drinking basically), while a venom is a substance which causes its effect through a specialised delivery system (such as fangs in a snake).
