No, they are not Gothic at all. The whole "Nu Metal'' scene is very popular among the pathetic Mall Goths (who don't know what real Gothic couture really is) just because it's dark people believe it's "Goth." Gothic Music is Bauhaus, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Virgin Prunes, and The Cure. Slipknot is Nu Metal and has NOTHING to deal with Goth. They can be labeled a hardcore metal rockband.

A-2 Some morons think that just because a vocalist has a gritty low voice this makes them death metal. Untrue. Slipknot is sort of its own genre or music, but it is classified as Nu-Metal. Other bands of this genre include Korn, Nine Inch Nails, Disturbed, that kind of sound.
If you want death metal a good band to start with is Job For A Cowboy. Not the best of the genre but they're really famous and got a pretty damn heavy sound to them. Also, garbage like Bring Me The Horizon, The Devil Wears Prada, and other bands such as these ARE NOT DEATH METAL. Once again, just because a band screams definitely does not make them a death metal band.

∙ 11y agoSlipknot is not nu metal. Slipknot is actually in the genre of Shock Rock. Nu Metal consists of metal with a bass groove, and a hip hop backround. Slipknot does not in any way fit this definition! If your looking for Nu Metal, look towards Korn, Limp Bizkit, Rage Against the Machine, or Linkin Park. They are the leading nu metal artist, however there are many more.

∙ 13y agoSlipknot is what I tend to refer to as a "Second Wave of False Metal" band (with Glam Rock being the first). The whole nu-'metal'/aggro scene was derived more from the early 90s Grunge/Alt Rock scenes, rather than from any Metal scene.
That being said, if you truly like the band, then it shouldn't matter to you what they are.
