although the above answer is funny, it is not fully true. the "brand name" stuff you find at wal-mart is the stuff that was not popular in the other chains/stores, it isn't bad, just not what most people look for. quality is up to the brand, I would personally never use a savage arm

These savage/Stevens model 72 crackshot rifles were made from 1972-1989.
The Lakefield factory in Ontario Canada has made rifles for a number of different brands, Cooey, Lakefield Mossberg, and now they manufacture all of Savage's rimfire rifles. Its no surprise if they use the same detachable magazine.
