This is a misunderstanding that many people have.

There are some kingdom halls that are built with windows. However, it is primarily a cost savings to have no windows and it reduces opportunities for vandalism.

They DO have windows; Kingdom Halls are modest in nature and are used strictly as a place of worship to our Grand Creator, and depending on the country, the building type may differ, but here in the US, they do have windows. Some do some don't. Why are there no windows in the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Halls?

There are windows in thousands of Kingdom Halls of Jehovah's Witnesses. When there are no windows this will be to deter vandalism. The Awake magazine printed by Jehovah's Witnesses 22nd Aug '72 p23 says, ''The building is windowless as a safeguard against vandalism (a common feature of many city Kingdom Halls)'' It is also said that some did not have window built in to save money. The reasons were to reduce cost, simplify design, speed up construction, and to reduce the utilities needed to heat and cool the Hall. However, in recent years the organization has begun including windows for the reason that we want people outside the Hall to see what's going on inside the Hall. So, those who are in charge of overseeing the building committees have decided that the benefits of windows outweigh the cost and design issues. So, on our newest Halls, we have been including windows in the auditorium in the US. Worldwide, however, in some countries, it is impractical to include windows. In some areas, windows are much more expensive, and building skills on the part of the workers may be limited. Therefore, especially in developing countries, Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Halls may continue to exclude windows in the auditorium.
