Not necessarily, but there are some ways to get things not unlockable by standard achievements like beating Campaign or something. For more Trial missions, beat the first one to get the second one, and unlock the other missions in the same manner. For special color planes, destroy hidden aces which are in some missions. To get the X-02, destroy all hidden aces.
