Are there any photos of gillette lane husband of rose wilder?
In 1909, when she was 23, Rose married a man named Clare Gillette Lane. He is described as a salesman and part-time newspaperman. They lived in San Francisco. The following year Rose had a baby boy who was either stillborn or died soon after birth. She never had another child, and her marriage to Lane ended amicably around 1918. She never remarried.
Although her diaries indicate she was separated from her husband in 1915, Wilder's letters do not indicate this. Gillette Lane was recorded as living with his wife, although unemployed and looking for work during his mother-in-law's two month visit. It seems the separation was either covered up for her mother's visit, or had not yet involved separate households.
Laura Ingalls Wilder did not like to teach. She taught school at age 15 at Brewster School. Brewster School was located 12 miles west of De Smet, South Dakota. She also wrote books about her life. These books are called The Little House OR Little House On The Prairie books. She continued books about her life that she wrote with her daughter, Rose Wilder Lane who married and divorced Claire Gillette Lane. Laura Ingalls Wilder…
no! she married Claire gillette lane. it sounds like a girls name but it isn't. they divorced though. rose spent the rest of her life single. To assume someone is not a lesbian because she was married is simplistic. The marriage was short lived. Dorothy Thompson, journalist & wife of Sinclair Lewis was one of her best friends & bi sexual. Rose lived & traveled w/ a woman for many years.
