I just researched this on ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) There are approximately 78.2 million dogs and 86.4 million cats OWNED in the US (APPA, 2012).
However, there is a huge stray population of cats - approximately 70 million of them.
So, if you have any animals - neuter them. A shocking statistic is that every year approximately 3 - 4 million companion animals are euthanazed in animal shelters throughout the US. Such a sad fact.
