According to the literature, these two medications are safe together, and with someone taking Wellbutrin for depressive symptoms that has hypomanic / manic periods (common with bipolar disorder), Lamictal help stabilize the mood in order to decrease the risk of a manic episode. In my own experience, this combination caused severe neck and Back pain to the point where I could not move my neck for a day (this was after taking the combination for 2-3 days, after I discontinued the Lamictal, the pain went away). I have read reports of a similar reaction in others. Also, it seemed to make my concentration worse (I was diagnosed as bipolar d/o, yet I don't have the manic phases.. I'm almost certain it's actually ADHD).
Both wellbutrin and lamictal are central nervous system depressants and the use of these two drugs should be monitored when taken together. I was taking medication for depression but soon found out (experienced) some serious side effects (racing heartbeat, dizziness, insomnia, sweating, increased appetite, weight gain, numbness, headaches, etc.). And this medication was supposed to be HELPING me! Some people LOVE the medication that I was on and they definitely feel it was worth it. I, however, do not!
