Yes, tomatoes contain carbohydrates. However, the amount of carbohydrates in tomatoes is relatively low compared to some other fruits and vegetables. The exact carbohydrate content can vary slightly depending on the variety and ripeness of the tomato, but on average, a medium-sized tomato (approximately 123 grams) contains about 4-5 grams of carbohydrates.

The carbohydrates in tomatoes mainly consist of simple sugars like glucose and fructose. Tomatoes also provide dietary fiber, which is a type of carbohydrate that is not broken down by the body and helps with digestion. The fiber content in tomatoes is relatively low, with about 1-2 grams per medium-sized tomato.

It's worth noting that tomatoes are generally considered a healthy food choice, as they are low in calories and fat, and they provide a variety of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Tomatoes are not high in carbohydrates when compared to something like yams or bread but they can take you over your carbohydrate allowance (if you are counting carbohydrates) and eat too many of them.

For example, there are:

  • Approximately 6 carbs in 1 large tomato
  • Approximately 5 carbs in 1 medium tomato
  • Approximately 3.5 carbs in one small tomato
  • Approximately 1 carb in 1 cherry tomato
