Is it safe to substitute a 45 watt halogen bulb for a use 40 watt or less type G bulb?

The base of the bulb obviously determines where it can fit and for most home fixture cases determines the voltage (Unfortunately there are many speciality bulbs where the base can fit different voltage situations and you have to be more careful). Light fixtures are rated for a maximum wattage. Bulbs have both a wattage and voltage rating. So if the halogen fits the base, is the same voltage and the fixture is rated for 45 watts or better, then you are good to go.

Can you put a 40w bulb in a 60w lamp?

A wattage recommendation is applied to fixture after extensive testing. It is the bulbs approximation to the fixture that is the main concern. There is a certain amount of airflow around the bulb that is taken into consideration. A larger bulb is considerably hotter and this extra heat is what could damage the fixture. You should always go by the manufacturers recommendation.

What is the risk of using a 100 watt light bulb in fixtures that are rated for 75 watt bulbs only?

All light bulbs are safe to use. They have under gone underwriters safety tests before that can be sold by the manufacturer on the open market. The reason that people use different size lamps is because of the difference in costs of operating the lamp. Remember the higher the wattage the higher you will pay for operational costs. Using a smaller lamp in a specifically rated fixture will cut down on the amount of heat that the fixture will have to undertake, but there again the fixture has been certified for the amount of wattage that is shown on the fixture's label on the amount of wattage that the fixture can handle. With that out of the way using a 40 watt light bulb in a 60 watt rated light fixture is safer than using a 100 watt light bulb in a 60 watt rated light fixture. Using a 100 bulb in a fixture rated for 60 watts is dangerous. A 100 watt light bulb gets hot enough to deform or melt some of the components of the lamp socket and may cause a fire. It may be difficult to remove from some plastic sockets after it has been heated up and melted to the base of the bulb. A fixture rated for 100 watts usually has a ceramic socket.

How do you install lighting in ceilings with insulation?

Assume you are asking about recessed lighting. There are units that have a can around where the bulb is located to keep insulation a safe distance from the heat generated by the bulb. Just cut away the insulation so the can will fit. Buy a fixture that has thermal protection and will cut off if the fixture gets too hot. Follow manufacturer's recommended installation procedures. <<>> Don't leave your ceiling vapour barrier with a break in it. At the place where you buy your fixtures ask for a vapour barrier plastic boot to go over the fixture to seal the existing barrier. The easiest method to install this boot is from the top side in the attic if possible. Make sure that you use vapour barrier adhesive tape to seal the existing barrier to the new fixture boot.

Can you use New 100 watt bulbs that use 72 watts of power in a 75 watt fixture?

NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! The current draw from a 100W light greatly exceeds the design limits built into the 60W fixture. The end result would be a fire. You can use florescent light bulbs to get more light with less amperage. You get 100 watts equivalent lighting for 23 watts and will not create a fire hazard.

What is the difference between a ED28 and ED37 base bulb for HID lights?

The question is wrong. It is ED28 or ED37 bulb not the base. ED28 bulb is smaller bulb, about 7 or 7 1/2 inches tall. ED37 is a huge bulb about 12 inches tall. Make sure you order the correct bulb because ED28 will go in the fixture designed for ED37 but reverse is not true. It is just the matter of size but other things too must be considered like if the fixture is enclosed etc. because bulb requires high temperature surroundings. Then bulbs come in different bases, most popular are E39 and EX39. EX39 is extended and MAY not fit in E30 base socket. There is a trick once can break the edges so bulb fit.

How do you change brake light on 1999 Honda Passport?

There are two screws to get the fixture off. The two are on the side of the fixture in the small recesses that look like vents in the lights. They are difficult to see, but if you look closely, they're right there. Take them out. Some hondas have a third screw is located on the rear of the How_do_you_replace_the_tail_light_bulb_on_1998-2000_Honda_Passports, between the bumper and the fixture. There is a pressure fit plastic piece that lines up the fixture. Be careful not to snap it like I did. After that, it's easy. Remove the snap fit electrical supply to the fixture and you're home free. Change the bulb and you're done. Took me an hour to figure it out the first time, took five minutes the next. I dont know if I got the bulb in tight but it will work for me

How do you replace the tail light bulb on 1998 2000 Honda Passports?

Changing a tail light on the Passport/Rodeo isn't really as difficult as I have seen some people make it out to be. I have a 2000 Passport, so I'm assuming that most other years for the Passport/Rodeo are similar. To change the bulb you have to remove the rear light fixture. You DO NOT have to remove anything on the interior of the vehicle. There are three screws to get the fixture off. The first two are on the side of the fixture in the small recesses that look like vents in the lights. They are diffuclt to see, but if you look closely, they're right there. Take them out. The third screw is located on the rear of the car, between the bumper and the fixture. It's hard to see without a flashlight. Loosen the screw until it turns very easily and gently pull back and up on the fixture. The assembly should slide right out. There is a pressure fit plastic piece that lines up the fixture. Be careful not to snap it like I did. After that, it's easy. Remove the snap fit electrical supply to the fixture and you're home free. Change the bulb and you're done. Getting that bottom third screw back in can be tricky. I found it easiest to put the screw back in and cover it with a thin piece of tape to hold it in place. Once the fixture is lined up you can secure the sides and screw the bottom in by puncturing the tape with the screwdriver. Took me an hour to figure it out the first time, took five minutes the next.
