What is the best driving route from Houston TX to Portland OR?

Well I am no expert, and your route will depend upon the time of year.

Since it is Fall, and Winter time is upon us, I would suggest a southern route to California and then north on I-5 to Portland. This would be to avoid possible snow and ice.

Say going through Albuquerque, NM, Las Vegas, NV, and on the Bakersfield, CA, then straight up I-5 to Portland, Oregon, that would be my suggestion.

1. Take I-10 WEST to US-183 at EXIT 632.
2. Turn right off the exit ramp onto US-183 NORTH.
3. Take US-183 NORTH to Austin.
