Bloat in dogs?
Yes, dogs can get bloat and it is typically considered a life-treatening condition.
Bloat in dogs is caused by the stomach twisting around on itself and cutting off the inflow and outflow to the stomach. The blood supply and nerves to the stomach can also be compromised. Signs of bloat include sudden abdominal distension, particularly just behind the rib cage, pain, inappetance, unproductive vomiting and lethargy.
It could be bloat - this is a very dangerous problem for dogs, happens more but not exclusively with larger dogs - Apparently it's the second biggest killer of dogs after cancer it's to do with swallowed air (excercising after food or stress can cause it) and the stomach can twist up! "Bloat" is a general term used to describe the significant and often pathologic dilation of a gastrointestinal organ with gas or fluid. In dogs, the most common form is gastric bloat, in which the stomach becomes distended with gas. Without surgery, this is often fatal; with surgery the survival rate improves but is not guaranteed. In cattle there are two types of bloat - gastric and cecal. Gastric bloat comes in two subforms - free…
Well, It for certain helps. :) Not for certain at all. Research has shown that elevated food bowls can actually increase the risk of bloat. One answer is to try an anti-gulp water bowl and a slow feeder dog bowl, neither of these can cause any harm and have been proven to slow dogs down eating and drinking which is the only way to prevent bloat.

Dictionaries dodge this persistent question. They mention cattle bloat and corporate bloat and bloatware but take no stand on floatability. These comments may be helpful: Does a Bloat Float? With cattle bloat it's usually found that in a lake they'll bob around. But corporate bloat is sure to sink a company in its own red ink. For bloated apps? It's sink or swim. Our bloatware hugely needs a trim!
It really depends on the severity of bloat, and whether it's frothy or foamy bloat or free-gas bloat. It also depends on the specific animal in question, as sometimes treatment for one type of ruminant animal is different for another. In short, it's best to see your local veterinarian for any issues with bloat in your livestock.
Dogs cannot digest them. Canine digestion lacks an amino acid necessary to digest soybeans. Because tofu and soybean oil are already processed, they can be tolerated by many dogs. However many low-end pet foods contain soybeans, which can trigger bloat, an often fatal digestive reaction. Source linked.

It depends on what it died of. Cows that died of bloat will have already bloated before death, and a cow that died of anthrax or heat stroke will bloat up within a matter of hours. A cow that died in the winter won't bloat up as readily as an animal that died in the summer, or even one that attracts scavengers within hours of death.
This could be any number of things, from simple obesity to intestinal worms to liver failure to gastric bloat. However, it will take a veterinarian performing an examination to determine what the actual cause is. If your dog's belly has suddenly become swollen, you need to head to the veterinarian immediately - I would suspect gastric bloat or intestinal obstruction, both of which are surgical emergencies that can be fatal within 24 hours.

Trapped gas in the stomach of a cow is called bloat. There are two types of bloat: free bloat and frothy bloat. Free bloat is where there is free gas floating in the stomach but it can't escape through the esophagus and is treated by relieving the obstruction in the esophagus, passing a tube down the esophagus or by inserting a long large-bore needle or trochar into the gas cap in the stomach. Frothy bloat…

This is sometimes referred to as "bloat", though the more appropriate term for a twisted stomach is gastric volvulus. This can sometimes occur, especially in dogs with deep chests, even without eating too fast. In either case, a twisted, bloated stomach is a life-threatening emergency and treatment should be immediate.

Bloat is generally used to describe GDV (Gastric Dilation-Volvus), if your dog has had this for a month, then its more likely to be gastric distention, or air in the stomach, which you would probably see/hear/smell as the gas is belched out. If GD is happening frequently then you should use caution as it could turn into GDV. Bloat as GDV is life threatening, because not only is there gas there, but its unable to…
