Brake caliper locks up?

Oh Yes! A bad caliper so the piston cannot travel freely to allow brake pads to disengage or a brake caliper that simply "locks up" and puts big drag on brakes = lots friction = lot of heat

brake caliper bushings are the rubber mounts that sit inside the caliper bolt holes. They help guide the bolts when bolting the caliper up to the caliper bracket.

That's the brake fluid bleeder and it should be on top of the caliper. If it is on the bottom you have the left and right caliper mixed up.

You have to remove the brake caliper before you can remove the brake pads. I recommend you use a piece of wire and tie the caliper up to the spring to hold it. Now that the rotor is out of the way, you can remove them by sliding them out.

You've either got a bad Brake hose or bad master cylinder. Both these things can cause a caliper to stick.

Replacing brake pads is easy. Lift the car, remove the tire, remove the caliper/brake shoe, and remove the old brake pad. Put in the new brake pad, replace the caliper/brake shoe, replace the tire and lower the car to the ground.

take off wheel, then take off caliper by the 2 mounting bolts. do not let caliper hang by brake hose, tie up to spring if possible so your brake hose does not get broke. take off caliper mount, then slide rotor off. when putting back on caliper, push caliper cup in to bore, all the way with a c clamp. put caliper holder back on. then put brake pads in caliper. place caliper over rotor, and tighten down.

A brake rotor heating up would probably be caused by a sticky brake caliper or a collapsed brake hose.

If the caliper isn't at fault, you may have spun a wheel bearing. This is quite a job for an experienced mechanic ( I dealt with mine on Christmas Day 2007). If the locked tire is in the rear, and your calipers are okay, then you might have a locked parking brake.

Jack up the car and take off the tire. After the tire has been removed, decompress the brake caliper and remove the brake shoes. Remove the 2 bolts attaching the caliper and remove the caliper. There are 2 more bolts left, they hold the caliper mount on. Remove those 2 and the Rotors wil come right off

Put emergancy brake on, then jack up the front enfd remove tires, use a 3/8 Allen tool to remove the caliper mounting bolts. Then remove the brake caliper, and remove pads from caliper. Next push piston caliper into the caliper, reinstall the caliper. Re install the front wheels, lower the vehicle, pump the brakes until they are hard once again, and your ready to drive again.

bad break pads If it is disc brake it could be, caliper slide pins are frozen, caliper piston frozen, e-brake cables frozen. If it is drum brake it could be, frozen wheel cylinders, frozen e-brake cables.

take the tire off, remove the caliper, remove and replace brake pads, compress piston, slide caliper over the roter, tighten up the bolts on the back of the caliper, do one side at a time, open up the master cylinder before messing with it, its pretty easy.
