If you are on a hill or there is torque on the wheels it could just be a stuck 'pin'. try rocking forward and back whilst trying to shift out of park.... you may have a friend help to push.... but be carefull and keep your foot on the service brake... There is also a service brake lockout device that prevents shift unless brake is depressed... If all else fails, you might have an emergancy release on the shifter. On a 93 Geo there is one, all you do is pull it out a little and then press brake and put it in gear.
