i can tell you that a rodeo should be the same and that at least in the 97 passport the transmission is GM the transmissions should all be the 4l30e it might bolt up.

How do you change the transmission fluid on a 2001 4x4 Isuzu trooper

User Avatar

Sensor to replace is at tail end of automatic transmission. This is called the speed sensor. It may be plug in or have a long tail on the wiring. Check which one you have. easy replacement.

Simple answer is take it to an auto transmission shop. They have all the gear and replace the gasket and internal filter for little more than it would cost for the bits. I gave up doing this years ago.

The filler plug is on the rear section of the transmission that the drive shafts bolt on to, it looks alot like the drain plug and is fairly obvious. The tranny itself fills from the dipstick tube.

The 1993 Isuzu Trooper with the 4L30E 5-speed manual specifies API 5W30 for the transmission. API SJ (or above) is compatible with this transmission.

Isuzu Rodeo, Possibly Isuzu Trooper, and The Isuzu Amigo

When changing the filter and fluids of a car, it is important to know the fluid capacity. A 2000 Isuzu Trooper uses 9.1 quarts of transmission fluid.

User Avatar

To put the car into 4x4 drive automatically when needed as opposed to it being permanently in 4x4 mode.

If auto--through the dipstick tube If standard through side plug in transmission

Same location where you pour the motor oil

Based on the Penzoil Capacities guide it takes standard ATF (Yes Automatic Transmission Fluid). Power steering fluid lacks proper lubrication for the seals and will damage them.

it is on the transmission pan...you have two....its the highest one....the other is a drain plug...

my niece's was overheating I replaced the radiator cap and it hasn't happened since FYI

there is a drain plug and a fill plug on the underside of the transmission. you need to use the fill plug. You can not fill the transmission fluid or check the level, any other way.(it is a ridiculous design, i know.....) go to autozone.com look under Isuzu repair info, then choose the year and choose "trooper".then look under "fluids" the info will be there.

when accelerating, if the transmission seems to "jump" or "slip" and is fine after that, it's probably low on fluid. while the trooper is on and in park, pull out the transmission dipstick to read the fluid level. wherwe is the dip stick 2002 Isuzu trooper, thank you the 2002 trooper has no tranny dipstick, you need to check it from under the car. on the tranny pan are two drain plugs. one to drain, one to fill. you need to pump the fluid into the fill plug hole. this is best done at a shop that has a pump . fill it up until the fluid runs out the fill hole. quickly replace the plug. do this on a level surface.

Yes!! It is imparative that the filter get replaced every time a service is performed. The filter is located in the REAR pan. There are 2 pans on that transmission. The larger one is the one that has the filter in it. Remove the pan, replace the filter, put on a new pan gasket and reinstall the pan. Fluid must be pumped in from under the vehicle through the upper plug on the pan. Vehicle must be running to add fluid to the appropriate level. Mac's Transmissions Houston, TX 281-743-1000
