Yes, fiber optics work with light pulses rather that electrical charges. One of the main benefits are that there is no EMI(electromagnetic interference) since magnitism does not affect light. Thus there is no problem with laying electrical cables with fiber optic cables.

What are the advantages of optic fiber cabling over normal cabling?

Fibre Optic cable is quicker in transmitting the data rather than Normal cable . This is because Optic cable conducts the Light wave as its speed is high the data transfer rate is also high. Also, fiber is not subject to the adverse electrical effects of electrical/radio interference (EMI/RFI) or electrical damage that results in power electrical/lightening surges. -P2E

Are noise and interference major propagation problems for optical fiber propagation?

No. Fiber is immune to electrical interference; there is no cross-talk between signals in different cables and no pickup of environmental noise.

Is fiber optic immune to electromagnetic interference and radio frequency interference?

Yes. It is immune to EMF (electromagnetic interference) and does not create its own EMI. Also, it is immune to RFI, or radio frequency interference. This is because fiber optic carries signals as light waves instead of electrical impulses.

Does fiber optic cable conduct electricity?

No. Fiber optic cable is made of glass, which is an electrical insulator.

Optical fiber VS coaxial cable sound?

Optical fiber vs Coaxial cable... Optical fiber is glass strands and uses light to transmit the sound in 1's and 0's (digital). No interference from magnetic fields, lights, power transformers and other things that can introduce noise into your sound or music. Coaxial cable is metal strands and uses electrical impulses to send the sound or signal down the wire. Because it is metal strands and is using electrical signal to send the sounds down the wire it is susceptible to interference from radio waves, magnetic fields created by transformers (wall warts), microwaves, fluorescent lights, anything else in the room that has an electrical signal can potentially impact and muddy your sound going down the wire. That being said, it is fairly well shielded and unless it is near strong electrical fields or noise producing environments it might be OK. If you have a choice, I would choose Optical cable. Less noise, less chance for interference, cleaner sound. -BW

What are the advantages of optical communications?

Optical fiber is immune to electrical noise, interference and distortion. The bandwidth or capacity of optical is far greater than electrical transmission.
