Mountain Dew, as with all sodas, contains sugar. One can or glass of Mountain Dew may not necessarily be enough to cause a sudden, temporary blood sugar spike (i.e. hyper), but drinking a case or 2-liter bottle may. Unfortunately, the adverse side effects of "being hyper" from drinking a large amount of soda (or any products with sugar in it) include the lethargic, lazy 'sense' that comes afterwards, caused by the pancreas releasing an increased amount of insulin to hydrolyze all the sugar into smaller components the body can use.

I know a friend of mine got "drunk"(he called it) on Mountain Dew and was sick afterward because he drank so much at one time.
