Because muslims can't keep cats. <- entirely untrue, Muslims adore cats in Islamic history. Abu hurarah? Pakistani people may hate cats under the influence of Southeastern Asian influences. Animals such as Dogs and Cats are considered evil incarnations by their Hindu brethren, the indifferent and at times hateful inclinations they have may come from cultural assimilation. In Islamic traditions, cats have always been respected as clean animals.

Yes, many cats are house cats. You can count all adopted cats as house cats, since they belong to households.
I am a muslim, and i got to tell you. Some animals are forbidden in islam to enter in you're house, cats are acceptable but dogs are forbidden because of it's salavia it's unclean, and because muslims pray in their house and when pray it's haram to have a dog in the house. You CAN have a dog but you cannot let it in you're house, that's all.
