In a word, yes.
Television has the ability to transmit more information faster, and in a way more easily interpreted and stored in the brain, than any other media currently available, such as radio or printed text.
The more information you're able to collect, the better.
Health and other concerns, such as the moral or educational values of the information being transmitted, are subject to variable change, and will depend largely on the organizations transmitting the information, the viewer's preference in those organizations (based off of the information they transmit), and the make and model of the television being watched.
Older televisions may give off more harmful radiation than their modern counterparts, making prolonged viewing potentially degrading to the eyes, however, moderate viewing on any television set (between 3 to 4 hours a day) is relatively harmless.
This can be answer two ways, and i will use both.
1st of all, it depends on which channels you watch. Here are some examples:
So that way, the question "Is TV Good for you?" cannot be answered, as it is up to you to answer it - do you want it to be good for you? If so, watch the good channels. But don't bore yourself. Sometimes, it's ok to watch Cartoon Network.
2nd of all, even if you're watching BBC, there's a limit. It is obviously not good for your eyes if you watch it too much, no matter how good the channels are. So limit your time.
Kids, stop at 4 hours of watching TV. To be honest, that's a pretty lot and children usually watch only for about 2 hours before getting bored. But for the addicted ones, it's time to limit yourselves.
Adults, no, you dont get excused either. 4 hours is more than enough to get the latest celebrity goss, or find out what happened by the recent flood.
Entertainments and Arts -> Movies -> Can TV be good for you?
I think that in many ways television can indeed do more harm than good. Impressionable children get a lot of what they think they know about the world from brilliant advertisers who are driven to sell products. Their insights about how to make products attractive, or how to hook certain segments of the population into buying certain products, become part of the understanding that people think they have about how they think the world works.
Watching television does have it's good points. But the increase in children watching television is growing. This means that children won't get to spend as much time going outside or letting their imaginations run wild.
Yes it can. If you're watching a violent TV show you might want to fight people and kill animals. If you don't think this is true how come after every adventure movie you want to explore different areas and find hidden treasure or you see a karate movie and you say, "I wish I could fight like that guy." If that's the same for other movies why isn't the same for violent movies? Now people say, "I would never kill or hurt a person," but you never know. One of your best friends could have straight A's and good parents, but not a whole lot of friends. Maybe he sees a kid smoking and then he sees it in a movie then thinks, "Hey, I want to be cool too," so he starts smoking. Then one thing leads to another smoking, drugs, then lower grades, then he drops out of school and has a bad life. All of this happened was because he saw people do it and then TV convinced him. So yes TV can hurt you.
Most would agree that one to two hours of television a day is good enough. It is good to invest time using other resources.
No, a lot of people eat while watching tv.
