Does Wellbutrin help with anxiety

In my opinion, yes! The regular Wellbutrin didn't help much for depression or anxiety and gave me migraines. However, the Wellbutrin XL has worked wonders for me. I was taking 150 mg / day and am now taking 150 mg 2x / day. I can now deal w/ anxiety and stress. My husband was just prescribed Zoloft for anxiety. The Dr. says Zoloft works better for men than for women. I can attest to that because the Zoloft didn't help me much.

Wellbutrin is not a front line drug for anxiety. In fact the manufacturer clearly references anxiety, agitation, irritability, restlessness as side effects of Wellbutrin. I tried it for six months after years on SSRIS and Cymbalta. I lost alot of weight which is good but also felt jittery most days for weeks. I finally, even after dose reductions from 150 to 100 to 75 mg (non slow release) found my anxiety and jitters and nervous - not right in my own skin feeling, drove me to call my doctor and ask for permission to cut the dose to 1/2 or stop. He told me to just stop. Note: the higher dose tablets can not be cut in half, they are time release. The 75mg can be cut but should be done with permission of your doctor and / or a pharmacist.

i hope that it works that way for you! i have found it to take the edge off of depression, but without increased energy and concentration. also for me, it doesn't really seem to address anxiety very well. perhaps it somewhat dulls it, but i still take klonopin relatively regularly for anxiety. having traveled the psych meds road for many years, i can say through personal experience and speaking with others that each drug acts a little differently on each person, it often takes trying various drugs to find the right one for you, and often it isn't a drug but a combination of drugs tailored to your particular problems. good luck! and don't give up if things don't work right away. patience is very important in this quest.

I take Wellbutrin for Bipolar II Disorder along with Abilify. I am currently at 300mg of Wellbutrin and I love it. I am used to getting severely depressed; when on this drug, I feel there is a cap to the "low" my body will allow me to go. What I like about this drug, is the fact that my sexual drive isn't impeded on and since I'm a smoker, my cravings are almost completely gone. It is also helping me with weight loss. I'm still allowed to have feelings and don't feel like someone put a cork on the dam of my emotions, I'm me, just a less emotional swinging pendulum version.

Like most antidepressants, it is an norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI), which is supposed to regulate the amount of dopamine and norepinephrine (the stuff that makes you happy) absorbed by your brain. And because of its chemical makeup, it can even reduce your threshold for seizures, so if you are epileptic, you doctor might prescribe something to counteract that effect.

Most people don't even start actively absorbing antidepressants until the 2nd or 3rd week of use. Doctors will most likely start you off at 150mg and raise it to 300mg, with the cap at 450mg if they think you need it. Tell them about any side effects you are having.
