I assume that if the dogs have no other choice then they would mate and considering they are both dogs it would probably work. I think that they naturally choose not ot breed with each other. I think some cockapoos are bred with stardard poodls though, so maybe.

edit: the small dog has to be the male and the big dog has to lay down because if the big dog is the male it will not work because he will never reach.

∙ 7y agoYou can, but not with a size difference like a German Shepard and a Pomeranian as it is risky and would likely cause injury.
Edit: The small dog must be male cause like if you're talking mating a Maltiese and a Dalmatian it would never work, if the big dog was the male he wouldn't reach. And if you want to help you would have to hold the small dog up if it was the female.
Another answer: To a reasonable extent, yes, (think Labs and beagles), but not to an extreme (like malamutes and Chihuahuas). However, the female has to be the larger breed. If she's the smaller breed, trying to carry the puppies could kill her.

∙ 12y agoYes, but depending on how much of a size difference there is, it is very dangerous for the female to carry the puppies to term should she become pregnant from the mating. It is also possible for either dog to be injured during the mating itself.
