∙ 8y agoMost gastroenerologists or GI doctors will not perform a colonsocopy unless you are sedated. It can be painful if you are awake because the doctor may remove polyps (growths that can be precancerous or become precancerous). Hope this helps! (Also they would most likely pump some air in your bowels just so they can see clearly inside, and that is probably going to be the first thing you'll notice when you wake up)
