Is bathing a dog once a week too much?

Most Vets recommend every 3-6 weeks, depending on the length and thickness of fur and how much time they spend outside. You should make sure that you're not bathing too much as this can dry out their fur and skin.
if they show it is needed about once a month. Otherwise only when they are dirty, no more than once every 2 months. the shampoo strips their coat of natural oils:)
