Yes. I have a moderate anterior wedge shaped vertebrae at T6/T7 and can attest that it can cause considerable pain, especially if I participate in strenuous physical activity. Though I don't have edema, I can imagine that this would only worsen the pain.
Discogenic edema is swelling (edema) of the vertebra in the spine (disc's).
The L5 is the fifth lumbar vertebra. The pedicle is an extension from it. Bone marrow is normally found in many bones and is a place where red blood cells are made. The edema is a swelling due to fluid and can be very painful. See the link below for the anatomy of the vertebra and its' parts:

Cellularity is how much of the bone marrow is creating blood vs how much of the bone marrow is not. So, if you have moderate to high cellularity, it would mean that a large percentage of your bone marrow is making blood. If it's low, it would be a lesser percentage. You can find out from your doctor what the percentage of cellularity is. Also be sure to find out what is average for your age. The younger a person is, the higher their cellularity should be.
