Usually, a female friend who is not related to the mom-to-be is given the honor of throwing or hosting the baby shower. However, nowadays it is becoming increasingly accepted that anyone, even a relative (grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin, etc.), can be the hostess, as long it is not the mom-to-be or dad-to-be.
